Abstract
1st and 2nd Timothy contain personal and poignant instructions from Paul intended to help Timothy, his co-worker and apprentice, navigate through the dysfunctional behaviors of Christians in Ephesus. These Christians were led to believe false notions about Christian godliness and their relationship to society. What is especially valuable for Christians today who study 1st and 2nd Timothy closely are the lessons Paul gives about how Christians can stand firm in the faith which instructs them to behave in a way that honors God, who wants all people to be saved, and honors Scripture, which trains us towards godliness.
